A trio of apple trees have been planted on the Green, to add seasonal interest to the area and, in time, provide fruit for both passerbys and wildlife.
The trees were sourced from Heritage Fruit Trees in Banbury. Two have connections to Warwickshire: ‘Wyken Pippin’, a yellow-skinned eating apple found at Wyken near Coventry around 1700 and ‘Leathercoat Russet’, an English eating variety originating from 1600, referenced in Shakespeare’s “Falstaff”. The third tree is a red-fruited crabapple, called Malus kirghisorum, originating from Kazakhstan.
